About Us

The Red Cross, the world's largest humanitarian organization, was inspired by Jean-Henri Dunant's efforts during the 1859's Battle of Solferino and established in 1863. Active in 192 countries, it promotes humanity, health, safety, disaster response, and sustainable development. The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS), established in 1963 (2020 BS). It was officially recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 1964 and became affiliated with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in the same year. NRCS is legally registered with the District Administration Office at Kathmandu and the Social Welfare Council. Over time, NRCS has grown to become Nepal's largest humanitarian organization, with seven provinces and 77 district chapters.

The Kaski District Branch, established in 2022 BS, carries forward the Red Cross's values and principles. The branch collaborates with government, non-government organizations and social institutions to provide essential services, including blood transfusions service, disaster relief, ambulance support, first aid, drinking water and sanitation (WASH), metallic improved cooking stove (MICS) and health care services. The Kaski District Chapter is supported by 48 Sub-Chapters and over 150 Junior and Youth Red Cross Circles across schools and communities with significant contributions from student, youth volunteers and community people.

Our Vision

Nepal Red Cross Society shall remain an efficient, self-sustainable, and independent humanitarian organization committed to provide immediate relief to human suffering and reduce vulnerability, under the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross, through its network of Red Cross workers throughout the country working closely with communities and governmental and non-governmental organizations in a democratic, transparent and participatory way.

Our Mission

The mission of the Nepal Red Cross is to relieve human suffering and to reduce vulnerability through community participation and mobilization of an increased number of volunteers, by expanding and strengthening the organizational structure of the society and by building links with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Objectives and Functions

With the primary objective of alleviating or reducing human suffering without discrimination on grounds of religion, race, sex, class, caste, tribe, nationality or political belief, the Society shall have the following functions:

  1. To serve war-victims, both civilians and army personnel, in times of armed conflict, and to work in the fields identified by the Geneva Conventions, including Tracing, in times of peace.
  2. To contribute to promoting and improving health condition, preventing of diseases and reducing suffering.
  3. To arrange for emergency relief services for disaster victims.
  4. To organize Junior and Youth Red Cross as an integral part of Nepal Red Cross Society and to conduct activities promoting their participation.
  5. To promote the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and International Humanitarian Law with the objective of developing humanitarian ideals.
  6. To ensure respect for the International Humanitarian Law and protection of the Red Cross Emblem.
  7. To perform other functions of community development and public welfare.
