Nepal Red Cross Society is an international humanitarian organization, established in 1963 A.D. The main objectives of the Red Cross are to provide relief to human beings in vulnerable situations; to ensure respect for the human being and to prevent and alleviate human suffering without any form of discrimination. In order to reach these objectives, mobilization of community participation as well as volunteer activism creates the basis. The Red Cross also works in co-operation with other governmental and non-governmental organizations to achieve these goals when necessary. Following the singing of the Geneva Conventions For the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded in Armies in the Field by the Government on 7th February 1964 A.D., NRCS was recognized as a National Society by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). On 3rd October 1964 A.D., NRCS was granted its membership. In Nepal there are 75 District Red Cross Chapters where as one of these is Kaski Red Cross Chapter. NRCS, Kaski has been working independently at district level.


Nepal Red Cross Society, Kaski district chapter was established in Pokhara in the year 1965 AD. However, from organizational as well as physical points of view, Nepal Red Cross Society, Kaski Branch is found to have gained momentum since 1982 AD. Nepal Red Cross Society, Kaski district chapter is located in Pokhara Sub-metropolitan City-8, Srijana Chock. Altogether three concrete buildings erected in compounded area of about two ropanies of land reflect the physical situation of Kaski Branch. The second floor of one of the buildings has come in use for its office purpose, whereas one of the buildings has been used as a Training Hall, Storeroom and an office for Community Development Program. This Chapter has equipped Training Hall. The fifteen rooms of these concrete buildings are on rent for regular income generation purpose. Similarly, two shutters of Blood Transfusion Center building next to the compound of Western Regional Hospital have been used for garage and six shutters are on rent to generate income except its use for laboratory. There is also a three-roomed house being used by staffs near to Regional Wire House at Kundar. The Branch office has equipped with necessary materials.


Nepal Red Cross Society shall remain an efficient, self-sustainable, and independent humanitarian organization committed to provide immediate relief to human suffering and reduce vulnerability, under the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross, through its network of Red Cross workers throughout the country working closely with communities and governmental and non-governmental organizations in a democratic, transparent and participatory way.


The mission of the Nepal Red Cross is to relieve human suffering and to reduce vulnerability through community participation and mobilization of an increased number of volunteers, by expanding and strengthening the organizational structure of the society and by building links with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Objectives and Functions

With the primary objective of alleviating or reducing human suffering without discrimination on grounds of religion, race, sex, class, caste, tribe, nationality or political belief, the Society shall have the following functions:

  • To serve war-victims, both civilians and army personnel, in times of armed conflict, and to work in the fields identified by the Geneva Conventions, including Tracing, in times of peace.
  • To contribute to promoting and improving health condition, preventing of diseases and reducing suffering.
  • To arrange for emergency relief services for disaster victims.
  • To organize Junior and Youth Red Cross as an integral part of Nepal Red Cross Society and to conduct activities promoting their participation.
  • To promote the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and International Humanitarian Law with the objective of developing humanitarian ideals.
  • To ensure respect for the International Humanitarian Law and protection of the Red Cross Emblem.
  • To perform other functions of community development and public welfare.
